In the final week of Term 1 many of the students from the MLC attended camp. All students participated in activities that were designed to build team work and independence, and encourage students to step out of their comfort zone and have a go at new things.
We played the Harry Potter game, in which students were split into the four Hogwarts houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. The aim was to collect the most points by running past the “dementors” with their tickets, getting up to the wizard and exchanging them for points, then making it back down to their team with out losing the points they had just collected. Congratulations to the winning team… SLYTHERIN!
Students and teachers participated in a ‘Minute to Win It’ challenge, where a number of different challenges were issued, including eating a dry Weetbix without using your hands, stacking playing cards on top of a cup using only a straw, and balancing a pencil on your nose. Needless to say the students won in the end.
Apart from these games students participated in a number of outdoor adventure activities. These included a commando course, canoeing, the giant swing, the flying fox, the teddy bear rescue challenge and cooking damper in a camp fire. It was fantastic to see all the students and even some of the teachers having a go at every activity, even if they were a bit nervous about some of them.
It was a fantastic three days on the camp and the teachers are very proud of the students for participating in all the activities.
